Omega 3 Fatty Acid

Omega-3 Fatty Acid

Do you familiar with the term Omega -3 Fatty Acid? But no idea what it's for? And where it's from?   A healthy body has became a very crucial part of our hectic life nowadays. With the consuming of lots of processed foods as well as insufficient of rest and exercises, our health level may tend to decrease from day to day.. In order to add on the essential nutrient to our body, we may opt to consume good intake of supplement. Omega-3 fatty acid is one of the very important nutrient that our body need.  Thus, I would like to share with you what is actually Omega-3 fatty acid and why it's beneficial to our body!! :)

What is Omega -3 Fatty Acid??

Omega 3 fatty acids are a certain type of unsaturated fat that the body needs but cannot produce on its own; therefore it must be obtained from food. The three main types of Omega 3 fatty acids that are integral to the body’s metabolism are a-Linolenic Acid (ALA), Eicosapentaenoic Acid (ELA) and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA).

Why do we need Omega-3 Fatty Acid?

Polyunsaturated fats (Omega 3 fatty acids), are actually beneficial to your overall health. Omega 3 fatty acids truly play a key role in lowering the body’s cholesterol.

Omega 3 fatty acids offer a host of other benefits to overall health which include but are not limited to:
  • Lowering blood pressure levels
  • Preventing allergies
  • Reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases
  • Promoting healing from illness or injury
  • Balancing blood sugar levels
  • Combating depression
  • Preventing certain cancers
  • Boost the immune system.

A 2010 study of 3,081 women suffering from breast cancer was done to research the effects of polyunsaturated fats on breast cancer. It demonstrated that the consumption of high amounts of long chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fats from food produced a 25% reduced risk of additional breast cancer events. These women were also shown to have reduced risk of "all-cause mortality".

The DHA obtained through the consumption of polyunsaturated fatty acids is positively associated with cognitive and behavioral performance. In addition DHA is vital for the grey matter structure of the human brain, as well as retinal stimulation and neurotransmission.University of Pittsburgh research team recently published results in the journal PLOSOne regarding omega-3's ability to improve memory and reduce the occurrence of dementia in aging adults.

Omega 3 improves cardiovascular health. Some evidence suggests that people with certain circulatory problems, such as varicose veins, may benefit from the consumption of EPA and DHA, which may stimulate blood circulation, increase the breakdown of fibrin, a compound involved in clot and scar formation, and, in addition, may reduce blood pressure.Evidently, n−3 fatty acids reduce blood triglyceride levels, and regular intake may reduce the risk of secondary and primary heart attack.  The long chain omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA have been shown to effectively lower the risk of heart disease and heart attack

Omega-3 fatty acids offer a promising complementary approach to standard treatments for ADHD and developmental coordination disorder. Fish oils appear to reduce ADHD-related symptoms in some children.

The Journal of Nutrition published a report in 2007 about the benefits of Omega 3 on immune system response.  The study revealed that infants who were given Omega 3 from cow’s milk, formula or with fish oil had stronger immune function development compared to infants who did not consume Omega 3.

Believe it or not, the latest findings conclude that regular consumption of fish oil can also help you lose weight.Experts suggest that fish oil helps with weight loss because Omega 3 fatty acids improve the body’s blood flow to the muscles during exercise which helps stimulate the enzymes that carry fat to where it is stored and then metabolized.

Taking enough of these supplements appears to have enormous health benefits -- including dramatic anti-aging effects.
