Soy Protein

Soy Protein

I bet many of us love soy products. I am one of the top fans of soy products especially soy milk. I had been consuming large amount of soy milk in order to provide sufficient protein to my body and also that of my little baby in my womb. *wink, wink.. I believe that soy milk can help my baby to grown healthily and having fairer skin...But of course not only these, there are many more!

Soy is one of the sources of soy protein that our body need. How many of us are aware of the benefits of soy protein?? And what actually is soy protein??Soy protein is a protein that is isolated from soybean. Just as simple as that. :)

Soybean protein is a "complete protein" since it provides all of the essential amino acids for human nutrition.

Benefits of Soy for Health Promotion

Pregnancy
Fortified milk and fortified soy milk are the only reliable dietary sources of vitamin D (Somer, 2002). Use of soy products during pregnancy can be encouraged because expectant women are likely to receive the same health benefits as other women.  It may also be an alternative for women who do not like regular milk.

    • Cardiac

      • Consumption of soy protein in place of animal protein has been found to reduce serum concentrations of total cholesterol
    • Individuals need to consume about 25 grams of soy protein or more each day to obtain results (Wardlaw, 2000).

    • Obesity and Diabetes

          • In recent studies, soy protein contributed to the control of hyperglycemia and reduced body weight, hyperlipidemia, and hyperinsulinemia (Bhathena & Velasquez, 2002).

Cancer Prevention
Genistein, one of the phytochemicals found in soy, can reduce the risk of cancer (Wardlaw, 2000).

Menopausal Symptoms
Soy protein has been found to positively influence bone and calcium balance in postmenopausal women (Arjmandi et al., 2003). Results were especially significant for women who were not receiving hormone replacement therapy. These same results were not seen in young, healthy women who were still menstruating (Anderson et al., 2002).

What is Non-GMO?

GMO means genetically modified organism, which is a novel organism created by scientists when they genetically modify or engineer food plants. Scientists have cited many health and environmental risks with genetically modified (GM) foods. As a result of these risks, many people in the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan, and other nations are demanding non-genetically modified (non-GMO) foods.
